Why do we have Hantsweb?
- The World Wide Web is a significant form of access and contact by members of the public. In the long term, it may well be a principal form of access. It is therefore going to play an increasingly important part in the provision of information and services. All managers need to begin to consider how future communications planning can incorporate material for the web.
- Hampshire County Council must be accessible to all of our customers in ways that are convenient for them. We recognise the move towards 24hr government and the web gives us the ability to provide this service. People can contact us when it is convenient to them, out of hours or whilst they are at work. We can ensure that information is up to date and recent publications can be put on to the web simultaneously making it more accessible to a growing number of people who use the web regularly.
- Individual users will be accessing the web from home and from publicly-accessible terminals in public libraries, Internet cafés, etc. Organisations will seek access either for their own purposes (for example, the Townswomens' Guild) or on behalf of individuals (for example, Citizens Advice Bureaux). Intermediaries are likely to form a significant proportion of users and so you can assume that in the short term your audience will be semi-experienced in terms of using computers, accessing information and interpretation of content. However, you should also be looking to the future and thinking of the needs of the less experienced end user.
- Hantsweb provides up to date authoritative information. Alterations can be made with immediate effect and this lends credibility to the information.
- Hantsweb supports the aims of County Council as outlined in the Corporate Strategy.
- Communicating with the residents of Hampshire and beyond in support of economic development, the policy of openness and freedom of information
- Reaching as many people as possible regardless of visual impairment or cognitive disorder.
- Hantsweb has a broad remit, it is about Hampshire not just Hampshire County Council. We include information about Hampshire and its borders as this adds value to our pages and the public sometimes do not recognise political boundaries.
