King John's House, or Hunting Box. A hall house of circa 1240, part of the property within the mediaeval abbey. Hall on first floor, room of similar size below and cellar. Outside staircase on west wall, now masked by Tudor Cottage. External walls are flint quoined with stone. Early English window in west wall, plain doorway in east wall, leading possibly to a former chapel. Now used as a centre for exhibitions and concerts. O.S.A. No. SU32 SE4. Ref: 1.
