North of St. Boniface Church. Suspected site of the monastery where St. Boniface spent many years prior to 718AD when he commenced his missionary work to establish the Early Church in Europe. O.S.A. | Brickworks (Site) |
Lower Toothill. The site of the brickworks of H. Read and Company, which produced red bricks, the works closed in 1939. The brick wall around Broadlands Estate was built with bricks made at Toothill, this is recorded on a row of bricks built into the wall. | Gravestone |
St. Boniface Church. This gravestone is set into the east wall of the church and records that Margaret Reeves died on February 14th 1730/31, this is a rare example of dual dating, this was due to the fact that England, being Protestant, was out of step with the Catholic countries of Europe who were following Papal instructions issued in 1582, that New Year's Day would be on the 1st January not the 25th March.
