St. Boniface, Nursling. Restored by Street in 1881 and by Kinnear Tarte in 1890. Nave, chancel, south transept and tall shingled steeple, C.14 traceried windows. Interior has Jacobean pulpit, canopied tomb to Sir Richard Mille, 1613, and large tablet to Thomas Knollys of Grove Place, 1751. Church may be of Saxon origin. The churchyard contains a cedar tree which was planted in 1847 to commemorate the consecration of an extension to the churchyard. Ref: 1. Buildings of England, Hampshire and I.O.W. Grove Place, Nursling. Built in 1561 by Sir Francis Knollys, a rectangular block with projecting wings on south side, framing the entrance. Tall octagonal towers in the internal angles with battlemented parapets. 3-bay central portion with central brick gable with stone coping and casement attic window, at first floor level is a stone panel with coat of arms. Wide central door in stone surround. Four chimneys on north front. The building was damaged by fire in 1969. Now a school. Approached by a double avenue of trees. O.S.A. No. SU31 NE13. Ref: 1.
