This tiny parish of 153 hectares and a population of 36, lies between East and west Tytherley near the Wiltshire border: the hamlet of Frenchmoor is a straggle of buildings along the road between East Dean and West Tytherley. The parish was until recently a tithing in the demesne of Broughton, and no reason for giving the name Frenchmoor can be found. The name has been in use since the C.13 and the area is identified with a wood mentioned in the Domesday Book as belonging to the manor of Broughton.
