Four miles west of Alton, Medstead is some 700 feet above sea level. It has a very attractive little church with a small wooden bell turret capping a shingle roof. Two of the original Norman arches can be seen, as can an interesting window showing St. Joan of Arc, erected some years before she was canonised. Medstead Manor was recently acquired by an American Roman Catholic Order, and the Convent of St. Lucy has been established there.
