Connections: Hidden British Histories Exhibition
23 August to 7 September 2008
Today Hampshire, along with the rest of Britain, is a multicultural society and is made up of many different communities: however, in the past, immigrants were often marginalised and so their place in British history was 'hidden'.
This exhibition discovers the hidden histories of Asian, Black and Jewish immigrants who came from different parts of the world at different times and for different reasons, but who all had a difficult time and little contact with the 'host community'. Their stories are similar to those of many other immigrant communities.
• How long do you think Britain has had links with India?
• How long to you think black people have lived in Britain?
• When did most Jews come to Britain and why?
• Where would British music be without immigrants?
• Do you think there is racism in Britain? Has there always been?
Explore the answers to these and many other questions at the fascinating Connections Exhibition.
The connections Exhibition is part of a project conceived by the Jewish Council for Racial Equality (JCORE) and the Asian-black-Jewish Forum.
